I believe what Frank Lloyd said "people derive countenance and sustenance from the 'atmosphere' of the things they live with". Hopefully, my art changes the countenance and sustains the environment in which it is displayed. I focus on strong, simple, unique shapes fused into glass using clean and contemporary lines. When glass is combined with stone, and/or metal the resulting synergy is a powerful and elegant statement. I think people grow up having a passion for some things in life. They don't always know the source, but some people know without question that they're attracted to certain things and they surround themselves with thoughts and objects that represent that passion. I am one of the lucky ones that create using materials I am passion about.
Laurie Burns moved to San Juan Island to focus full time on her study and execution of glass combined with different mediums. Laurie believes that "glass can work magic for interiors" working on a variety of practical and psychological levels. She is a master when working with dichroic glass, in cast and fused forms. Her dichroic glass combined with a collection of different materials makes her one of the most ingenious glass artist of today.
